Dr. Byard Wood's areas of specialization are heat and mass transfer phenomena in energy systems, algal based biofuels, solar energy utilization, and engineering design.
Dr. Byard Wood retired at the end of June 2014 from the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) Department. He came to USU August 2003 as the MAE Department Head. Byard lead the Department for over 10 years, while also continuing his research in the areas of biofuels and solar energy. He is a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration, and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), and the American Solar Energy Society (ASES). He is a registered Professional Engineer (Mechanical) in the States of Arizona and Nevada. He received the 2004 Charles Greeley Abbot award from ASES and the 2010 Frank Kreith Energy Award from ASME.
