Inverse Heat Transfer of Rapid and Localized Energy Deposition

Major Professor:  Dr. Heng Ban. This collaborative research project between USU and Sandia National Laboratories is working to develop solutions to an inverse heat transfer problem of rapid and localized energy deposition. The overall goal is to develop an effective technique to determine the time dependent surface temperature T(x, y, z0, t) for a metal surface exposed to a large surface energy deposition, based primarily on temperature data from embedded sensors within the metal object. Research includes designing an experiment to help validate and develop the numeric models necessary for the computational inverse analysis model.
